PageRank (PR)

March 8th, 2008

PageRank - PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.” Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance.

Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.

Google offers a PR viewer on their Toolbar.

The Simpsons Game

March 8th, 2008

Probably the best Simpson’s game to this day. This game does get old but they have managed to extend the playing time without getting too annoyed. It would have been nice to play as other characters besides just the Simpson family. Ralph would have been a great addition.

Thrillville

When I first downloaded this demo on Xbox, I thought it was pretty neat. However, the full game gets really boring really fast. The mini games are what makes this game, I especially like Easy Rider. Building the coasters and then riding them is pretty lame, it does give you that oh my god I’m going to die feeling that a real life roller coaster provides.

Eastern Promises

January 28th, 2008

Viggo Mortensen went from being the bad ass swordsman in Lord of the Rings, to a surprising sex scene in The History of Violence, and now in Eastern Promises you get to see his fruit basket (Butters from South Park knows what I am talking about). I was a little disappointed with this movie, from the previews I saw I thought it would be a lot better than it was. Just like History of Violence, this movie features uncommon kill scenes that leave you thinking, did that just happen? The ending leaves you hanging but is set up for a sequel that could be much better. A lot of the story still needs to be explained.

Bug

January 28th, 2008

This movie sucked. The two movies we rented this weekend seemed to be filled with naked dudes which was not cool. This movie features an army guy who broke out of the psych ward to hook up with a lonely and depressed Ashley Judd to bring her into his own demented world where he thinks that he has bugs in his blood from military experiments. The all aluminum room is kinda cool though. The ending is also very strange, I will not ruin it for those of you who have $4.00 to waste on a rental.

Super Bad

Good ole McLovin. Though the movie seems to be a little longer than needed, the laughs are continued throughout the whole movie. Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fogell) is my favorite in the movie, but Officer Slater and Officer Michaels have some of the best parts to watch. If you are a fan of The Office, be sure to watch the police extras to see Daryl from the warehouse as their first perp. The Mac Guy is not that good though. This one is definitely worth checking out.

Live Free or Die Hard

December 27th, 2007

Yet another good action packed movie to add to the Yippee Ki Yay Mo collection. I think this one is in a tie for second with the 3rd release, Die Hard: With a Vengeance. First place is still the original Die Hard. Bruce Willis’s character is even more ruthless and arrogant which makes for some good one liners. I would like to see John McClane as a customer service representative; that would be great. It was also nice to see they finally used a different type of terrorist.

Culdcept Saga

December 27th, 2007

Based on the demo I downloaded, this looks like it will be my favorite Xbox 360 game. Culdcept Saga is a strategy based game that combines elements from Magic: The Gathering and Monopoly to making a truly unique game play. The game should be released in early February 2008 so I may write more once I have gotten to see what the full game is like.

Based upon the short demo I would recommend playing off of the card’s strength by using matching colors and linking land side by side building an increased chain effect. Don’t just randomly place a creature each time you land on a square.

Also, using armor when you are in attack mode it pretty much pointless because you will still loose the match even if you survive the battle. Instead, increase your ST as much as you can since you have the benefit of going first when you attack.

Hopefully this will help a little.
